First issued to U.S. GIs during the Korean War, Mickey Mouse boots are designed for combat and shielded against water and extreme cold. A interior of several layers of rubber serve as excellent insulation. Their most distinguishable features are their giant size. Reminded of the iconic cartoon character, soldiers joked they were in Mickey Mouse's shoes. Many generations of the military have continued to wear these boots, also called "M&M's". Backpackers, fishers, or campers exposed to ice, snow, and water can enjoy their sport without fear of frozen toes with these great boots.
Bunny boots or Mickey Mouse Boots is the widely used nickname for the Extreme Cold Vapor Barrier Boots (Type I) used by the United States armed forces. The linerless bulbous boots retain warmth by sandwiching up to one inch of wool and felt insulation between two layers of rubber and are typically worn with one heavy wool sock. These boots were originally developed at the Navy Clothing and Textile Research Center in Natick, Massachusetts, US, for use during the Korean War.
The black pairs, sometimes called Mickey Mouse boots, weigh approximately 44 oz. (1.25 kg) apiece and are rated for temperatures down to ?20 °F (?28.9 °C) and are made with oil/diesel resistant rubber
